Abstract

The purpose of this project is to improve treatment of patients with Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and Binge Eating Disorder (BED). The project has two aims. Firstly, to investigate the prevalence of BED among approximately 4,500 T2D patients in the Region of Southern Denmark within the DD2 cohort. Secondly, to investigate the effects of BED treatment among patients with T2D and BED in a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT). The hypothesis is that around 10% of the investigated T2D population suffers from BED, and that BED treatment reduces both BED symptoms and T2D severity and cardiovascular risk factors. In Denmark, the prevalence of BED among T2D patients is unknown, as is the effects of BED treatment in relation to T2D. Therefore, the project offers a novel approach to a vastly overlooked problem, and results can be applied on a national level and extended to the primary sector.

Formål

1. To investigate the prevalence of BED among approximately 4,500 T2D patients in the Region of Southern Denmark within the DD2 cohort
2. To investigate the effects of BED treatment among patients with T2D and BED in a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT)

Studiepopulation

The selection criteria for the prevalence study include individuals enrolled in DD2 before 1/1/2024 with an address in the Region of Southern Denmark.
